Israel– Ground Troops in Southern Lebanon
The AP reports that Israeli combat units have entered southern Lebanon.
The ground troops are attacking Hezbollah positions. The IDF describes the attacks as a “small operation.”
On television (7 AM CDT) I just heard that the ground operation is over and Israeli troops are withdrawing into Israel. Fox News also reports that 1400 rockets have been fired into Israel from Lebanon in the past six days.
Fair bet Israeli recon troops (special forces, etc) have been operating in Lebanon for some time– seeking information on the two kidnapped Israeli soldiers and also assisting air attacks by identifying targets.

I have the distinct impression that Phase One is coming to a close… Phase Two will depend of whether Hezbollah is smart, and releases the kidnapping victims, or if they are determined to push things and either continue to hold the soldiers… or worse.
