Oh no, Afghan optimism

Filed under: General — site admin @ 10:54 am

From ABC News.

For what it’s worth, I saw this optimism first-hand last June. The September elections were the buzz in the Afghan village we visited. But we’ve had to endure another six months of soap opera negativism and defeatism from the likes of Howard Dean and Ted Kennedy. Of course their focus is Iraq, but Afghanistan was to be a defeat and quagmire as well.

  2. I think the fact that Saddam’s anti-American forces never surrended, merely “melted” into terrorists/spies/insurgents, has been under publicized. The Taliban were more “honest”, didn’t run, and openly defeated. Though not necessarily permanently defeated. If honor means certain loss, it seems much less dishonorable to avoid loss by non-honor.

  3. Their focus wasn’t always Iraq. Someone really needs to find the negative things they said about Afghanistan too. I will also note that our presents in Iraq, by drawing the enemy’s focus away from Afghanistan, has surely helped accelerate the process of democratization. Gotta go. Late for school (Masters in Ed.).
