UPDATED: Iraqi polls close: Will turn out break 75 percent?

Filed under: General — site admin @ 11:15 am

Breaking news from Iraq the Model (via PajamasMedia).

Some of the commentary:-

15.5 million+ Iraqis cast their votes in more than 30,000 stations spread nationwide.

-All the assassinations and intimidation that preceded the election could not stop the process.

-There have been strict measures to make sure that all ballot boxes and stations are in compliance with the standards of the IECI and now it’s their — the IECI’s — duty to make sure that no boxes were replaced or manipulated.

-The presence of the press and representatives of political bodies and civil society organizations was profound although there were limitations on the presence of media workers. However, the process was being watched 600,000 eyes!

UPDATE AND CORRECTION: Other sources are reporting 11.5 to 12 million turnout, out of 15.5 million potential voters. I wonder if Omar of Iraq the Model meant 15.5 million could vote at 30,000 poll stations (?). I said yesterday a 65 percent turnout would be outstanding, but the turnout will certainly top 65 percent.

  3. Is an election in Iraq worth a 1/2 trillion dollars? And the tab is still open.

  4. Yani- If you were captured by Zarqawi, would your life be worth $20,000 (about 1/2 trillion divided by 27 million Iraqis)? Based on your post I’m tempted to say no. But I think the answer is probably a yes.
